Prompt: Blog post 1

Please consider the following questions and write a blog post that details your answer (about 200 words):

  1. With the situation this article describes in mind, do you feel that A.I.-generated art should be considered art? Why or why not?
  2. New inventions and technologies in art making have frequently been a part of the history of art. (For example, more than 100 years ago many artists thought the photographic camera would disrupt the status of forms like painting and sculpture, but the camera is now a widely accepted artistic tool.) Do you think artists’ concerns about this innovation are exaggerated or do you think they have a point? Why or why not?

  1. I feel that A.I.-generated art should not be considered art. A.I generated art is something that takes little to no effort from humans, whilst being generated by artificial intelligence, artificial being a key word here. It shouldn’t be considered art because art is something that humans use to express themselves. So, where is the human expression within A.I generated art? Sure it can be seen within the prompts given to A.I from humans, but thats simply just a few words put together to form a demand given to a computer to do all the work. For example, photoshop, digital art, digital art manipulation are all still considered art. They are still using human expression, human effort, not entirely made up by A.I at all. While Jason M Allen had good intentions for his A.I product of “Théâtre D’opéra Spatial”, it didn’t have a positive execution, or all around positive reaction from social media. One of the points of A.I is to come off as realistic and human made, but it isn’t. Its deceiving, and artificial. It shouldn’t be considered art because it is missing the human creativity part of it, the human effort.

    • Artist’s concerns about this innovation are not exaggerated. I feel that they have a point, because now, their own art might get diminished because of new technology. Art has existed for ages, its one of the most beautiful things about human ideas and creations. A.I has already begun to take over many human roles in the world today, jobs for example. Artist’s are have talent that should be appreciated, but how will we appreciate it if A.I is doing all the artificial work by itself, to deceive us humans, and take credit for other people’s authentic work.

  2. 1. I believe that A.I.-generated art should be considered art. Art is subjective. Art can be anything. Art can be shown by words, images, dancing, singing or just your voice. We use and see A.I art on a daily basis, magazines, instagram post, billboards, ads and even fashion models. These are all forms of “art”. We use A.I to enhance or alter photos. A.I. is a part of us and the art world. If we can describe what we see and feel, A.I is able to generate it into visual art. it reflects your creativity but with just a little help with A.I.

    2. I do understand the artists’ frustration and don’t think they’re exaggerating their concerns. A.I has Indeed impacted the job market and artists who are competing, like the artists in the article who participated in the fair and lost to A.I art. Having A.I has made it more accessible for everyone to create art with minimal time, and effort. It is as if there’s no authenticity towards the artwork which makes it lose its value. A.I does use outside imaging to create your idea, some may argue that it’s a form of plagiarism. A.I continues to evolve and will continue to make artists worry about the future of art.

  3. The controversy surrounding Mr. Allen’s win at the Colorado state fair is not something that should be overlooked as he seems to have broken rules in many peoples eyes when he won an art competition using an AI generated image. Many people took to social media in response to Mr. Allen’s win when he posted his blue ribbon that was gracefully earned from the judges, who in fact were not informed that his work was AI generated. Upon learning this fact, the judges stated that they would’ve rewarded him with the win anyways, and thought the piece was masterful and deserved to be considered equivalent to the art created manually. However, despite the judges maintaining the decision and standing firmly on their beliefs, many people still took to social media to react and say that this was “the death of all Art”. Mr. Allen however, responds to them saying that he believes that humanity has lost the battle to the machines and therefore we should just embrace AI as a new form of art created digitally and not see it as cheating or bending the rules. My personal belief is that AI generated images should not be included in any fairs or art piece galleries of any form as it does not stay true to the validity of what art is; what I believe to be a human creation that captures the beauty of what the human mind is capable of imagining. Many would argue that if AI is to draw a painting worthy of success, it is necessary for a human’s input to be equally as creative to generate that. However, I believe that it’s not equivalent to the talent required to do hands-on work and therefore should not be on the same level and like many others believe, it can be the end of a true art form. The world has seen many changes to the ways we consume and create art, but none have created as much of a threat as AI producing new images simply from a few words that a person feeds it. I believe the artists who are scared that AI will be taking their jobs and stealing the creativity of the world from them have much to fear. As AI grows everyday and becomes more and more advanced, it’s not exactly easy to predict where its capabilities could end.

  4. Throughout history things always seem to change “the one only constant in life is change” Heraclitus once said. There will always be new resources as time goes on. While I believe that A.I-generated art is scary, I believe that it should be considered art with the knowledge that art takes on different forms. While I am aware that this is scary for artists who upload their work I disagree when they state that they are “unwittingly helping to train their algorithmic competitors.” I don’t believe that there is a difference as to when someone else stumbles onto their work and takes inspiration from their art to create their own interpretation. As long as the artwork presented is authentic and not a duplicate I believe that it is art as it came from an idea or vision just like how any other art process starts. New innovations always come with concerns. It is inevitable and I believe it is reasonable we are in a century where technology is evolving faster and just like many other inventions there will always be a group of people that are negatively impacted for example with new software helping people do there own taxes efficiently and without the help of a third party many accountants have had to turn to different areas in there field. I believe that it will always boil down to how adaptable and flexible we are willing to be.

  5. I strongly think that A.I. should not be considered art. To me when I think of art I think that humans put emotion into it and they paint it. With A.I. you are putting words into a program and it does the rest. Computers don’t think of emotion just how you asked it, yes people use online drawing as art but that artist is creating it. It will not have the same effect with people as the real thing. While Mr Allen didn’t mean to win first place he should not have been allowed to enter in the first place.i think the artist concerns about A.I. make a valid point. A.I can take not only artist jobs but everyone would become an artist. There art might get as much recognition as the A.I. A.I has impacted the work market as a.i gets stronger.everything changes yes but a.i. takes the cake.

  6. As many of us know, people create artwork to express ideas and their skills to the world, with the intent to further get in the minds of open-minded individuals. A new form of art has been recognized, AI-generated art. I strongly believe that AI-generated art is not a form of art in itself. With AI-generated art, it takes a few seconds and words for it to be created. Other forms of art, specifically physical forms, involve a lot of thought process and skill for one to achieve. An artist creating a physical form of art takes time to even consider a significant meaning to their piece. Later on, using delicate time and delicate skill to create the piece itself. This has become something with many different opinions and beliefs behind it. Artists concerns with this new innovation are not exaggerated. They have a point with this new idea of art, it is not a proper form of art. AI-generated art is created with technology and no effort put behind it. It completely disregards those artists who put time and skill into having something meaningful put out into the world. As well as taking no notice to the commitment an artist has to accept with finding a way to get their artwork well known.

  7. 1.] I think in a literal sense it constitutes art, and there are practical use cases for it in certain instances. However, I don’t think it should be given any regard to it’s technicality, as it requires none. Having the entire human history’s worth of man hours studying and practicing to portray experiences and emotions into a visual medium distilled into such an effortless process is blatantly insulting and very emblematic of the disdain with which people treat artists. I can’t imagine entering an art contest and straight faced taking home a grand prize knowing what the other contestants had gone through to be in the same place. Furthermore, I can’t imagine being interviewed on said piece, and not being able to elaborate in the least on what that piece meant to me personally.

2.] I don’t think the fears of artists are exaggerated at all, I might argue they are potentially understated. The profession who’s most prevailing caricature is literally “the starving artist” probably are not collectively deluded into thinking these tools are a threat to how they make their living. You can look at any industry where artists are employed and see that the people who make the most are the most removed from the creative process. It angers me but my soul pities someone who could hold the mindset in earnest that “It’s over. A.I. won. Humans lost”. The fact that a person who views art in it’s totality as something incidental to be absentmindedly lost to machines of our own creations and not the most prevailing practice of the human spirit would receive an accolade in a space celebrating that process could only be an ill omen.

  8. 1. I think A.I generated art should not be considered as art . Art should be something creative or even with way more thought behind it , like a song or poem with a message that you want to send , a painting , or even a beautiful picture you took . To me art should be something that you should be able to use to express yourself with or just even do for yourself like a coping mechanism . It should not be typing some words into a computer and getting a random photo.
    2. I believe the concerns that the artist have are not exaggerated, mostly because I can understand where they are coming from . It’s as if people are using computer science to create art , something that people have been doing for a long time way before this new and improved technology even existed. A.I is slowly taking over the world not only in art in many other aspects of life , for example alexa or Siri , we could use them for weather , crime reports literally anything just another form of A.I.

  9. A.I.-generated art should equally be considered art as it is the expression of human creativity in the form of visual arts. Living in the 21st century we as humans are following the law of nature -human adaptation, and A.I. can be considered as a non-biological part of adaptation . Artificial Intelligence itself is an art created by humans and cannot be denied . Art can be described to express emotion and an artist is someone who is capable of creating that emotion, be it with the help of an A.I. or a paintbrush .
A.I.-generated art gives the artist an opportunity to bring his vision to life by simply describing his or her ideas which is the case with Mr Jason M Allen’s “Theatre D’opera Spatial”.

The artists’ concerns about this innovation are not exaggerated as due to new advanced technology A.I. has made everything simpler, knowing the capability of Artificial Intelligence is fascinating and at the same time also concerning as it may lead to unemployment and lack of physical skill .

  10. 1) As we know, Ai is taking everyone by storm, but we need to draw the line with art, AI art should not be considered real art because it removes the organic feeling and emotion normal art gives and lacks original creativity in everything art stands for. AI can’t replicate and express human feelings and give the unique feeling human art displays, and it gives an unfair advantage inside art competitions. With the click of a button and a prompt, it gives an autogenerated art piece taking the easy way out and not putting in the effort and hours the artist put into and it can be seen as a form of disrespect to the other artist.

    2) Artists are not overreacting because the form of art is everything to them, and the use of new technology is under unfair play. Artists have a point for shying away from AI because it is a form of art that lacks the meaningful presence and emotions drawn. Art gives AI. Art would be a freebie, in different terms, if I were in the same shoes as the artist, I would feel like the art I took my time into was taking unseriously with someone using AI art into a competition and having a chance to win over me and using ai art it takes the overall art away as in the creativity aspect and the expression you can feel from normal art

  11. I feel like AI can be considered art in its own way, however I believe it also shouldn’t be allowed to compete with hand made art projects. The problem with AI art is that it takes away creativity from people. Now people could just write out a thought and that picture comes to life in a flash. Most times the reason why people are fascinated with complex art is because of the challenge and dedication that came behind it. If everyone were to be able to do something then it wouldn’t be as valuable. I feel like artists have every right to be upset, especially when they work hard for their artwork and it ends up being subpar to something that was made by AI in a matter of seconds.

  12. In my opinion AI-generated art should not be considered tru art, as art is typically defined by the creation of an original piece that reflects the artist’s ideas or emotions. AI-generated art, however, is artificial intelligence, which uses the internet as a tool to produce results and reduce the sensation of personal expression that a piece that comes from a human artist. Using the internet as a resource to create something is most commonly called “plagiarism”. Instead of creating something entirely new, AI-generated art typically takes images found online based on what the person described in the text box . For this reason, AI-generated art should not be considered genuine art, as the human effort and originality behind it are absent.

From my point of view, artist’s concern about AI-generated art and innovation are not exaggerated, and they have valid reasons. When creating a new piece of art, an artist uses their feelings and expresses them through a physical tool, whether that is painting or sculpting. By people thinking that AI- generated art is actually damaging the process of most of the human artists. AI-generated art creates their pieces through existing data found online without the genuineness that true art is defined.

  13. 1) I genuinely believe that A.I generated Art shouldn’t be considered art, because you don’t become an expert at your craft by giving your idea to a person (in this case a computer program) and have them do the work for you. Which is what you’re essentially doing when imputing prompts into the generator and receiving an image in return. Meaning anyone can be an A.I artist and create “art” in less than a few minutes. But usually, art comes with talented artists who have spent multiple hours a day creating intricate pieces of art that display the amount of work put into them with every detail and has so much meaning behind them. Something that an A.I generated picture can’t truly duplicate.

    2) It goes without saying that A.I generated art has captured the attention of many people all over the world. We live in a time where technology is everywhere, so of course when A.I generated art starts to become a trending topic, many artists become concerned. Those concerns become validated when A.I Artists like Mr. Jason M. Allen win Art prizes for their work. And you can argue that yes there will still be need for photographs or oil paintings. But when A.I essentially scours the web for images that correlate with the key words given, who is to say that it can’t take from the work of other Artists to implement it into the new outcome, not only would it be taking from the artists, but the program can get close enough to making the exact same picture.

  14. Many people make art to express their feelings through masterpieces to get further into the minds of open-minded people. A new kind of art has been introduced “AI generated art” but in my opinion A. I generated art is not art, With AI-generated art, it takes a few seconds and words to be created. Other forms of art, specifically physical forms, involve a lot of thought processes and skills for one to achieve. real art is when many emotions are involved and it means something to the artist. Artists’ concerns with this innovation are not exaggerated. They have a point with this new idea of art, it is not a proper form. AI-generated art is created with technology and no effort is put behind it. AI is like made to make people lazy with their work and at some points can be dangerous to use AI not just for making art, AI is used for a lot of situations even for scary ones such as scams, etc.

  15. I firmly believe that A.I.-generated art should be recognized as a legitimate form of art. The definition of art is described as a wide range, of words, images, dancing, singing, paintings and etc. In our lives, we already encounter A.I. art in various forms wether that’s within social media or even A.I. plays a significant role in enhancing and converting artists , making it an ideal part of the art world. By introducing the power of A.I., we can translate our thoughts and unanswered questions into visual art, combining human creativity with technological assistance, which was always going to go into play. A.I. could be the start to something new for this social media based generation and very helpful.

I understand artists who feel strange by the impact of A.I. on their proffesion/career path and do not believe their concerns are talked about enough. The creation of A.I. has revolutionized the art industry, making it more accessible for individuals to create art quickly and effortlessly. Some artists have experienced disagreements against A.I. creations, raising questions about the authenticity and the real purpose behind the creation of A.I, because some wants to know what’s the whole benefit for this online.
